Secrets to the Perfect Closet

Every woman dreams of a closet that is reminiscent to the one Carrie Bradshaw almost had in the first Sex and the City movie.  Most women believe that this dream closet is impossible to achieve, when really its not.

Four tips to make a drab walk-in closet fabulous.

1.     Closet organizer system

One of the most important aspects of the dream walk-in closet is to have some type of closet organization system to imitate the appearance of a chic boutique.  Think lots of shelf space, pull down rods and pull out shelves.  Include inserts in the drawers to organize your jewelry, sunglasses and scarves.  There should also be storage bins as well to make the closet neat and organized.  While this idea of a closet organizer seems expensive, there are many closet systems that are not expensive such as the ones from Ikea.   If you can afford so, consider a center island with built in storage where you can store more of your belongings.

2.     Add many mirrors

It is important to incorporate many mirrors in your closet at eye level.  This will create an illusion that your walk-in closet has more space than it actually does.  Also consider putting up a large mirror attached to your organizer’s door so that way you can also check out your whole outfit!

3.     Visual harmony

For a dream walk-in closet, the closet must be harmonious visually.  Everything in your closet should have a place, but the main focal point of your closet should be your bags and shoes.  With the shoes on display for everyone to see, you should arrange the shoes by type(such as heels, flats, and boots) and height.   With your bags, organize them by style (such as totes, clutches, and large bags) and color.

4.     Personal touches

The most important part of the walk-in closet is to add your own personal touches to the closet. Personal touches include adding a chandelier or perhaps adding an accent wall covered in wallpaper.  Have some seating for when your girlfriends come over, you guys can get ready in your closet together (if you have enough space) or put up some of your favorite paintings.  Add personal touches that allow you to have a closet that shows off your personality!
